Life after Treatment (Testimonials)

Melinda's Story

My name is Melinda. I have been suffering from headaches for many years. About twenty days out of a month, I would have severe headaches and migraines. I would take up to twenty Imitrex pills in a month's time and would run out of my prescription before I could get a refill. Also, I had many MRI's on my head and they would always come back good. Ten years ago, I wore braces for approximately fifteen months. My teeth were pretty and straight but something was not right.

Dr. Wooten's TMJ treatment was a lifesaver for me. While talking with my friend, who happens to be Dr. Wooten's Dental Hygienist, she mentioned that I might have TMJ. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Wooten for a consultation. I began treatment, and after wearing appliances for six months, I could tell a big difference. No more headaches! Today, after only fourteen months of treatment, I am migraine free and have a beautiful smile. Thank you Dr. Wooten.

Scott's Story

After suffering for years from neck pain, jaw joint pain, grinding my teeth and a host of other symptoms, I scheduled a long overdue dentist's appointment with Dr. Wooten to repair a lost filling and perform a routine check-up and cleaning. I discovered at that appointment that I was suffering from TMJ Dysfunction, and had been for many years. The lost filling was due to excessive wear on my teeth from grinding them at night. Dr. Wooten explained the numerous symptoms and causes of TMJ Dysfunction and proceeded to outline my treatment options. After being fitted with acrylic appliances for day and night use, I noticed a great decrease in the neck pain, jaw joint pain and other symptoms. I don't grind my teeth anymore because the appliances prevent that from happening. I am looking forward to completing this treatment and also having my worn down teeth repaired so that I can resume a normal, painless lifestyle of which I was deprived of for so many years.

Patti's Story

Having your jaw joint slide out of alignment is not something you want to happen. As a result I could barely open my mouth, had recurring headaches, and a lot of facial pain. The first doctor I saw put my in a splint. This proved unsuccessful and I was then sent to a surgeon for arthroscopic surgery, which only enabled me to open my mouth a little wider and relieve some of my pain - temporarily. After months of physical therapy, I accepted the fact that at age 45 I would have to live with this for the rest of my life.

I had played the piano, but because of the headaches, I had to quit. Singing was impossible since I could not open my mouth, and sometimes the pain was so bad I could not talk. Sleep was difficult because I could never get my head in a comfortable position. Many times just riding in a vehicle would start a headache that would make me nauseated. Then, new problems began to emerge. My teeth started fracturing so I was referred to my third specialist, Dr. Wooten.

After taking records and impressions of my teeth, Dr. Wooten agreed to treat me. He immediately began orthodontics to pull my jaw back into a correct position and even straightened my teeth in the process. I was so thrilled that no surgery was necessary to promote healing.

Today I am headache free, no longer clinch my teeth and can open my mouth wide. I am grateful to Dr. Wooten that I did not have to live in misery for the rest of my life. I will turn 50 with a smile.

Abby's Story

I suffered with a non-stop migraine for over a year before I went to see Dr. Wooten. I went to many different doctors and specialists and every test possible was done. Not one doctor knew what was wrong. I was told that I just had a depression problem and that I needed psychiatric help. I knew something else was wrong. I tried every migraine medication there was and they just dulled the pain. I was in the emergency room twice a week. I stayed on heavy pain medications and anti-depressants. I really felt like I was losing my mind.

One day at a beauty shop, I started talking to a lady that worked there and she had been through the exact same thing. She told me about Dr. Wooten and how she was diagnosed with TMJ in September 1999.

Dr. Wooten explained what TMJ was and the treatment for it. It took a couple of months before I got relief, but I did, and that had not happened before. The treatment took a couple of years to finish, but not long to feel better. It would be good if more doctors were aware of symptoms that could be TMJ related. I don't know where I would be today without Dr. Wooten. I don't need to take pain medications or anti-depressants anymore. Today, I feel great, thanks to Dr. Wooten.

Kate's Story

My experience with Dr. Wooten and his staff the last two years has been a wonderful one. I am so blessed to have met Dr. Wooten before choosing to undergo any invasive procedures.

My first TMJ disorder symptom was a mild pain directly over my right jaw joint. Although it began after times when I clenched my teeth together, most of the soreness seemed to be caused by chewing action. I began to eliminate tough and hard food from my diet, but the pain began to spread to my neck, shoulder and back. By the end of four years, the pain was excruciating. I had tried many ways to alleviate the pain - a soft food diet, night guards, massage, painkillers, acupuncture, etc. Because of the muscle spasms, intense pain and weight loss, I was constantly fatigued and found it difficult to accomplish basic daily tasks. It seemed that surgery was the only option I had left, but I had talked to a number of fellow TMJ sufferers who had experienced little or no improvement from their procedures.

From a human perspective, my situation seemed hopeless, and I continued to pray for a miracle. A friend of ours told us that a lady he knew used to suffer from severe headaches, but after orthodontic treatment from Dr. Wooten, she rarely had them. When I met Dr. Wooten, he explained that my problem was mechanical and could be corrected by expanding my jaw and evening my bite. This process would only entail an appliance for six months and braces for eighteen months. The very day my appliance was put on, I was able to eat firmer foods without much pain. The appliance was not a bother at all and caused little discomfort. Dr. Wooten was extremely patient with all my questions throughout the treatment and was concerned about my progress, health and appearance.

Today I am able to eat almost any food I like, and my health is good. My treatment is complete and has spared me from a life of severe chronic pain.

Debra's Story

I am happy to report that to date I have been migraine free for over two years and have quit taking Zoloft, which I took for 5 years, to help manage my symptoms. I am confident that my therapy is a true "cure" rather than merely a technique to deal with the pain.

My only regret is my choosing Dr. Wooten's treatment as a last resort after enduring years of insomnia, headaches and back pain, and after trying remedies from chiropractics and massage, to antidepressants. It amazes me that therapy, which treats such a relative small part of my body, has been able to affect to such an enormous degree the wellness of the rest of my body. The treatment to align my jaw and bite has eased muscle strain and pain in my neck, shoulders and back to the degree that I no longer suffer from migraine headaches.

Furthermore, I am able to enjoy an active lifestyle and no longer am compelled to balance the degree of my activities against the pain I will suffer afterwards.
